How to play a match
All matches will occur on lichess.org.
All regular matches are 20 minutes per side with no delays (20+0).
To set up a match, it is the responsibility of the home player (white pieces) to generate a game link. Both players should be on time. The home player should follow the following steps to set up the board.
- Go to lichess.org.
- On the right, click PLAY WITH FRIEND.
- Choose the Standard variant and Real time time control. Then, as the home player, click on the white pieces (right side) to claim white. It is up to the two of you whether you want to play on casual or rated. If one of the players feels strongly one way or another, notify your opponent ahead of time.
- Once you click on the white pieces, a link will be generated to e-mail to your opponent to get the match going. There is also an option to invite them via their lichess.org username — if you would prefer this route instead, ask your opponent for their username.
Once both players are in the match and white makes their opening move, the clock will start. All other standard chess rules apply. Please adhere to the intramural and lichess sportsmanship rules if you use the chat.
